Seriously, Henry VIII would be featured on the front of People magazine for 10 plus years if this story were taking place in the modern day. She does her best to weave an interesting tale - but you can't help but think how much MORE interesting this story would be if we were experiencing it in modern times with a modern press. To me, this book really does read like history if Fraser doesn't know something, she doesn't make any assumptions without making it clear that she is doing so. In the process, she certainly also portrays King Henry. Bear that in mind if you decide to pick it up.įraser basically devotes her book to understanding the various wives, why Henry VIII chose them, what caused their demise, and the political backdrop that influenced everything the king did. So my four stars has NO CONTEXT whatsoever. Let's just put all the cards on the table, shall we? I don't read history books. I like to imagine that is the author's goal at this point, and if so, they've achieved it with flying colors. I have to say though, I really dislike Ada so far. I really, really hope the next book has more plot and a bit less of the steaminess that this one had. That being said, the plot IS interesting and unique in it's own right, and I do like it, but it felt greatly overshadowed by the sex. I struggled to get through it at times, and almost stopped entirely when a week had gone by without finishing it because I could only bear to listen to so much of it at once without eye rolling. I promise I'm not fickle, it just felt like over half of the book was sex scenes and the plot was just a side story manufactured so there was a reason for them to happen so often. It felt like they were nearly constant, and that's coming from someone that typically wants more of such scenes in their romance novels. I didn't think that I would ever review a romance and feel like there were actually too many "intimate" scenes, but it really did feel that way with this book. I think the book overall is around a 3, just because of what I'm about to say. I can't change my rating for some reason and it's not the correct number of stars, so just ignore it. I warn thee brutally honest review incoming. Looking for a new home for your library card? Look no further! Since then, Mystery has left the company which was later renamed to Love Systems. Mystery Method was that original corporation where Mystery arguably the world's greatest pick-up artist was an owner of the company. If you've read the New York Times best seller The Game, you would have learned a little about this new field where guys learn how to be more successful with women and dating from the book's main character, Mystery. Savoy is CEO of Love Systems, a corporation comprising of dating instructors who teach guys how to meet, attract, and keep women. Savoy isn't the author's real name but a pen name like what most guys have in the seduction community especially the teachers as it is a way of protecting their identity from the many ladies they date. This is a book review of Savoy's Magic Bullets, a popular book for guys that precisely teaches them how to pick-up women. Stripped of his past, his identity and even (in the eyes of the law) his humanity, the renamed "Platt" becomes the property of plantation owner Ford (Benedict Cumberbatch), whose comparatively benign and sympathetic demeanour belies his slaver status. That McQueen may be on the verge of becoming not only the first black film-maker to win an Oscar for best director, but the first to do so while in possession of a Turner prize, lends enough historical precedent to merit your attention. Oretta, in particular, relies on her strong faith to always do the right thing even if it goes against the popular thinking of the day. But the women in the story show such amazing strength. This is not an easy book to read because of the child, spousal and racial abuses that the characters have endured. It’s told through the voices of three women: Gertrude Pardee, mother to four girls under the age of 15, married to an abusive husband who drinks away any money they might use for the essentials of life Oretta Bootles, a Black woman who lives in Shake Rag, works for the wealthiest family in town and loves her husband with all her heart and Annie Coles, owner of a local garment company and wife to Edwin, an influential plantation proprietor.
